Articular cartilage has a poor spontaneous regenerative capacity in response to injury or disease-related defects and only unstable fibrous cartilage tissue is formed.

To prevent the onset of arthritis, these defects should thus be treated in a timely manner.

Biologically, various treatment options are available today, e.g. matrix-based autologous chondrocyte transplantation (CaReS^®) and matrix-based autologous chondrocyte Immigration (CaReS^®-1S).
